Ron
was born in Fulham, London on 21st
February 1924.
In 1943 he took an
Armed Forces Engineering Cadetship, which led to a Commission in 1945 in
REME.
By 1946/7 he had
become a Captain and was responsible for equipment repairs in an Armoured
Regimental workshop in India.
He
had similar service in Scotland, Germany, UK and Singapore with a steady
rise in rank to Lt. Colonel. In 1962, when he was in charge of a workshop
repairing all types of Military equipment in Singapore, he undertook
training and qualified as a parachutist. He then became closely involved
with the development of heavy equipment parachuting and other parachute
trials.
After six years as a
Lt. Colonel, Ron left the British Army in 1970 to emigrate to Australia,
where he was Commissioned into RAEME. He voluntarily resigned this
Commission in 1975.
