Bob
was born in Southampton, Hampshire on
2nd November 1943. He served in the Territorial Army in 1961 and then became
a member of the 2nd Parachute Battalion from 1962 to 1966. During this time
he saw service in Bahrain and then in Borneo during the confrontation with
Indonesia. He comments that conditions in the Borneo jungle were very
dangerous, as was jumping with a radio weighing 80 pounds strapped to his
leg.
Bob
developed tropical dermatitis and had to be discharged as medically unfit.
However he recovered, migrated to Australia in 1968 and enlisted in
the Australian Army where he served for twenty years from 1971 to 1991,
reaching the rank of WO2.
He died in
August 2001, aged fifty-eight after a long
and distinguished Military career.
