Gareth was born in
Manchester on 5th September 1954. His service was all with the
9th Independent Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers.
He
had three tours of duty in Northern Ireland on the difficult and
thankless duty of keeping the peace under extreme provocation and
insecurity.
In
1982 he was a member of the British Forces which regained the
Falkland Islands from the Argentineans, another difficult assignment
but this time under fully active service conditions.
He
served his full seven years with the Colours from 1975 to 1982.
